Cookie Notice

Effective date: September 10, 2026

Steele Labs LLC uses cookies and similar technologies on steelelabs.co and in the Steele app. This notice lists the ones we actually set. There are two, and both are first party: they are set by Steele, and no other company can read them.

Essential

steele_session keeps you signed in. It holds a session token, it is set when you complete a sign-in code, and it expires 30 days later or when you sign out. Your browser will not hand it to a script, and it is sent only over HTTPS. Without it there is no way to stay signed in, so it is not optional and there is nothing to consent to: it exists only because you asked to sign in.

We also keep a small amount of data in your browser's local storage for the same purpose, including your sign-in token and simple preferences like your last-used page. Signing out or clearing site data removes it.

Measurement

steele_anon is a random id with nothing personal in it. It answers one question: how many people who read the site go on to create an account. It is set on the marketing and sign-in pages, it lasts a year, and it is never used to identify you, to log you in, or to decide what you can do.

It is deliberately not set once you are signed in. Page-by-page movement inside the dashboard is behavioral data about a family, and often about a child, so we do not collect it.

What we do not use

Steele loads no third-party analytics tag, no advertising pixel, no script that records what you do on screen, and no marketing cookie. Not from Google, not from anyone. That is audited rather than asserted: a test in our build scans the whole site for the known vendor scripts on every run and fails if one appears.

We do not use information from Google Classroom or Google Calendar for advertising, and we never set an advertising cookie from it.

If that ever changes

If we add anything non-essential, it will be off until you turn it on. The site has a consent gate built and waiting for exactly that: the script cannot load until you say yes, and your answer is remembered. We would also update this page before it shipped, not after.

Controls

Your browser can block or delete cookies, including ours. Blocking the essential cookie will sign you out and keep you out, so some of Steele will stop working. For a privacy request, or to ask what we hold about you, email support@steelelabs.co.
